Young man is bitten by a brown recluse spider

A young man was bitten by a brown recluse spider and, when seeking medical attention, he did not receive adequate treatment at a private institution. At the Hospital General del Sur, he was denied service due to his status as an IMSS member. His health condition deteriorated and, although the bite was confirmed at the Hospital Puebla, they did not have the necessary antidote either. Later, at the Hospital General del Sur, he was again denied care due to his affiliation with the IMSS.

The victim’s family decided to travel to Mexico City, where he received care at the Ángeles del Pedregal Hospital, paying 90 thousand pesos for the antidote. The tourist is out of danger. His relatives asked the authorities to reconsider the current health restrictions.

Why are recluse spiders dangerous?

Recluse spiders are dangerous because of their venom, which can cause serious reactions in humans. Their bite can cause skin necrosis and other systemic symptoms, although not all bites result in severe complications. In addition, their camouflage and shy behavior make them difficult to detect, increasing the risk of accidental encounters. It is important to take precautions when in areas where they live.
