The Cuernavaca City Council approved the Municipal Urban Cleaning Regulations that strengthen municipal actions in terms of cleaning and proper management of solid waste, in addition to promoting a culture of shared responsibility between the authorities and the citizens.
Among the objectives of the regulation, it is established that parks, streets, public spaces and residential areas must be kept in decent conditions, promoting citizen co-responsibility in waste management to prevent public health problems arising from inadequate waste management, in addition to promoting sustainability by incorporating modern provisions for separation, recycling and final disposal of waste.
During the presentation of the agreement, the councilor president of the Government and Regulations Commission, Paz Hernández Pardo, explained that the regulation responds to the need to clearly and firmly address current problems related to urban cleaning, establishing specific guidelines that will contribute to the care of the environment, strengthening the role of the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office by providing it with a clear administrative procedure in accordance with the law, through which the investigation, resolution and sanction of conduct that contravenes these provisions is guaranteed.
For her part, the councilor president of the Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Commission, Wendi Salinas Ruiz, added the inclusion of measures aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular the responsible management of resources and the fight against climate change, with which the municipal administration is sending a strong message that Cuernavaca takes seriously the protection of its natural environment and the well-being of its people.
In his speech, the mayor of Cuernavaca, José Luis Urióstegui Salgado, explained that the regulation contemplates the administrative compatibility that urban development and the environment must have in accordance with what is established in the update of the Municipal Program for Sustainable Urban Development and the Local Ecological Planning Program, joining the call for citizen co-responsibility to guarantee the care of the environment.
