Alberto Batún Chulim, president of the Mobility Commission in the XVIII Legislature, has assured that the taxi concessions canceled by the state Executive will not be reassigned arbitrarily. Although Congress has not been formally informed about the procedures initiated or the exact number of concessions revoked, Batún emphasized the need to meet with state officials to obtain details.
This statement follows Governor Mara Lezama’s announcement about revoking concessions for taxi drivers involved in attacks against UBER drivers, which have tarnished Quintana Roo’s tourist image. According to Batún, the Legislative Branch is unaware of the total number of concessions canceled or the process for reassigning them.
Criteria for Reassignment
“We do not know how many concessions have been canceled or what the procedure will be to deliver them to other people,” Batún said. He stressed that new beneficiaries will be selected based on clear criteria, such as seniority and years of service, ensuring transparency and equity under the principles of the Fourth Transformation (4T).
According to the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo), 10 taxi concessions have been canceled due to acts of violence. Additionally, 114 revocation processes have been initiated, and 64 more concessions are under investigation by the State Attorney General’s Office.
Batún reiterated that decisions will be made based on fair rules and without favoritism, ensuring that concessions go to those who truly deserve them.
