A Mexican tourist drowned near the Ultramar pier in Playa del Carmen, in the Constituyentes area. His body was found lifeless in front of the Hyatt hotel.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday when the man entered the sea and disappeared after a few minutes. Authorities, along with Civil Protection and lifeguards, initiated a search operation. After 15 minutes, the body was recovered in front of the Hyatt Hotel. Despite efforts to revive him, the man showed no vital signs. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived at the scene to remove the body and begin the investigation.
Municipal authorities urge beachgoers to follow safety instructions and lifeguard recommendations, especially during high season when visitor numbers increase, and sea conditions can be more hazardous.
In a related incident on Saturday, December 28, a coordinated operation by security agencies at all three levels of government led to the arrest of three individuals allegedly involved in an armed attack against a street vendor in the Costa Mujeres beach area near the Grand Palladium hotel. The attack, which occurred around 1:00 p.m., prompted a swift response from authorities and emergency services. The victim, who sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and abdomen, was taken to the general hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
