State authorities are waiting for the owners or representatives of the Maxi Family and Plaza China branches to appear, following the closure of three branches of these stores in the state, two in Ensenada and one in Mexicali.
This was confirmed by the Secretary General of the Government of Baja California, Alfredo Álvarez Cárdenas, who indicated that no one has appeared on behalf of any of the companies following the operations carried out on Thursday and Friday of last week.
Since it is not only the company’s issue, but there is an endless amount of pirated merchandise that had to go through some customs in the country
“At the scene of the events there were no requests, there was no customs paperwork, so the owners are obviously required to show the legal entry within a peremptory term, it is part of the administrative procedure”
Last Thursday, federal, state and municipal authorities carried out together the so-called “Cleaning Operation” in the branches of the Plaza China and Maxi Family stores in Ensenada, which had been open for a few months, in which more than a million products that were brought into the country illegally were seized.
According to Álvarez Cárdenas, the seized products have already been safeguarded while the corresponding administrative procedure is carried out, which includes an exhaustive review of each product.
So far, there are no complaints or accusations from any worker before the Conciliation Board, confirmed the Secretary of Labor in Baja California
“We are requesting the presence of those who could be legal representatives of said companies, which were installed one in October and the other in November, we assume to take advantage of the end of the year, and well, we are in the process of establishing the administrative processes and, in due time, surely the criminal complaints that could correspond.”
The following Friday, the operation was repeated at the Maxi Family branch that was located in Mexicali, however, on this occasion no seizures were made since the store had been closed since Thursday afternoon-evening.
In the case of the Mexicali branch, the closure was due to irregularities related to Civil Protection, particularly to a power generator that had a fuel spill, which was considered a risk to the population.

It was closed with seals from the State Civil Protection Coordination
“The ones in Mexicali and Ensenada have the same name, Maxi Family, and there is another one called Plaza China that has the same mode of operation, we do not know yet if they respond to the same corporate name as such, it is not clear to us if there is a corporate name yet”
Regarding the situation of the employees of these stores, it was detected that they did not have social benefits and that they received their payment in cash.
