The United Kingdom is one of the countries that receives the most tourists annually. Previously, to enter the country as visitors for a period of less than six months, Mexican people did not require any special document other than a valid passport, but this will change in 2025. Starting in January, Mexican citizens will have to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) that is obtained online. This decision is part of a plan presented in 2023 by the then Minister of Immigration, Robert Jenrick, who said that “ETAs will improve our border security by increasing our knowledge of those seeking to come to the United Kingdom and preventing the arrival of those who represent a threat.”
The countries of the American continent that are also on the list and will require this authorization are Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, the United States, among others. In a second stage, which begins in April, the ETA application program will also cover all European countries.
When it comes into force
The UK Foreign Office has reported that the ETA will be mandatory for Mexicans from January 8, 2025, date on which it can be requested from the official government pages.

How to get the ETA for the United Kingdom?
The digital travel permit for Mexicans visiting the United Kingdom can be requested through the UK ETA application, available in the Apple Store and Google Play. Or directly on the government website. Children and infants traveling will also require authorization. One person can make the application for others. It will also be necessary for those who make a stopover or change planes in that country.
