Baja California’s Anti-Corruption Unit prosecutor, Javier Salas, and his wife were injured during a New Year celebration attack in New Orleans. According to the State Attorney General’s Office, both sustain minor injuries and are in route to Mexicali for medical attention.

The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1st when a 42-year-old American citizen intentionally ran over people celebrating the New Year. This tragic act resulted in 15 deaths and 30 injuries. Authorities swiftly arrested the attacker.

The FBI confirmed that the attacker acted alone and was inspired by the Islamic State. Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia stated that no evidence suggests other individuals were involved. The perpetrator, identified as Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, was motivated by extremist ideology.

The attack’s devastating impact highlights the need to address violence during times of celebration. The prompt arrest of the attacker provides some justice, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the terrible effects of such acts.
