The Government of Jalisco announced the creation of a new state fund with the specific objective of financing the infrastructure and tourism promotion projects required by the “Magical Towns” of the state, after the federal public resources that existed for these same purposes ended up being eliminated by the Government of Mexico.
This new fund of the state government, presented directly by the governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, will have 100 million pesos, and only the 12 municipal governments of the state that have localities officially recognized as “Magical Towns” will be able to access it:
“This fund will be competitive with executive projects that are developed in said municipalities and will be destined for infrastructure and urban image, training and signage; focused on the promotion of these Magical Towns,” as communicated by the Government of Jalisco.
The executive projects that are developed and presented by the municipal governments that wish to obtain resources from the fund will be evaluated by a Council that will be formed with that specific task, and that will be made up of representatives of the State Government, the local tourism promotion sector, civil society, as well as businessmen in the sector.
The governor of Jalisco, Lemus Navarro, said in this regard: “Let us never lose our capacity for wonder, what we see in our Magical Towns is beautiful. What we need is to promote them better and, of course, provide them with the necessary infrastructure to be able to accommodate all these tourists. (…) All these Magical Towns are at their peak today, fortunately, but we must continue. People have to know the beauties of the Magical Towns of Jalisco.”
Jalisco has more than twelve “Magical Towns”
Currently, the state of Jalisco has more than a dozen towns that have been officially declared as “Magical Towns”, and which were affected by the Mexican Government’s decisions to eliminate federal funds in this area, as addressed in the statement issued by state authorities:
“Alberto Esquer Gutiérrez, Chief of Staff, indicated that this fund is directed to the 12 Magical Towns of Jalisco, which, he said, require support in the face of the disappearance of these resources at the national level. The Magical Towns of Jalisco are Cocula, Sayula, Temacapulín, Talpa de Allende, Ajijic, Tapalpa, Mazamitla, Lagos de Moreno, Mascota, San Sebastián del Oeste, Tequila, San Pedro Tlaquepaque.”
The state leader also announced an investment of 270.9 million pesos to rehabilitate the highway “544 Puerto Vallarta – Mascota – San Sebastián del Oeste”, a project that will have a favorable impact on the tourism sector of the region:
“Here we are also strengthening the tourist promotion so that, for example, many North American, European, and Canadian visitors who visit Puerto Vallarta can travel safely in the shortest time possible to this area to San Sebastián (del Oeste). (…) Then connect to Mascota, another of our Magical Towns, and then connect with highway 70 to be able to reach Talpa de Allende.”
