The leader of the Pulmonías Union, Mariano Ortega, expressed concern about the expectations that the union has for the next Mazatlán Carnival, one of the most important events in the port.

Ortega expressed his skepticism regarding the current situation and pointed out that the lack of clear strategies by the authorities could lead to a low influx of visitors and, consequently, an economically unfavorable season for the sector.

“There are not the best expectations, let’s hope that things change, that people have a better perception of security and reality here in the port. Otherwise, I think it will be a carnival with very few people,” said Ortega.

The union leader also commented that the joint efforts between the government and the private sector are insufficient, which will directly impact the activity of the traditional pulmonias, a symbol of tourist transport in Mazatlán.

“It will be very complicated because there is no clear strategy right now nor coordination between the authorities and the businessmen. I think we are going to have very low numbers for the Carnival; I hope we are wrong,” he added.

The Mazatlán Carnival, recognized as one of the largest in Mexico, is a key season for the local economy, especially for sectors such as tourist transportation. However, the leader’s statements reveal the uncertainty that persists in the transportation community in the face of the high season.

“We hope that the authorities react and that the port can provide better conditions for both tourists and local workers,” concluded Ortega.
