Mexico among the best destinations in the world to enjoy retirement

Every year, International Living produces a ranking of countries with the best conditions for enjoying retirement from the labor market abroad.

Factors such as climate, cost of living and health care are compared to create the ‘World Retirement Index’.

In this edition, Panama was chosen as the best country to retire, with 84 points out of a possible 100. It is followed by Portugal, Costa Rica, Mexico, France and Spain, respectively.

Particularly, in the case of Mexico, destinations from the Riviera Maya to San Miguel de Allende are considered. The positive points are the culture, traditions, art, food and especially the people. The lower cost of living for foreign retirees is another positive point.

The Index, say its creators, “is nourished by the direct experiences of our correspondents and collaborators who live in these retirement paradises. They are not tourists or casual observers: they are integrated into the communities they report on. Their knowledge comes from years of experience on the ground, which helps us build a reliable and insider perspective.”

The topics to be considered are: Housing (ease of acquiring a property); Visas and benefits; Cost of living; Affinity classification (social life) and Climate.
