To encourage the payment of property tax, the municipality of Querétaro doubled the amount of home insurance that taxpayers receive in cases where their homes suffer a fire or flood-type disaster.
Until last year, the insurance coverage granted to compliant taxpayers in the Querétaro capital was 50 thousand pesos; however, starting this first year of the new municipal administration, it was increased to 100 thousand pesos.
This is one of the new features acquired for the benefit of the citizen who covers his payment in the month of January, reported Carlos León González, Secretary of Finance of the municipality of Querétaro.
Payment of the 2025 property tax begins
In addition to home insurance, this year, the payment of the property tax will have pet insurance
“The company that won the tender was Inbursa. This year, the sum insured in cases of fire or hydrological phenomena will be up to 100 thousand pesos. For cases of theft, the coverage is 25 thousand pesos,” explained the official.
Among the new features of the policy for 2025 is a coverage of 15 thousand pesos for businesses and another of the same amount for accidents or funeral expenses of pets. Pet insurance applies to dogs and cats, with a limit of one pet per home and one event per year.
“The civil liability issue for businesses and homes is 15 thousand pesos. In addition, pets will have coverage for accidents, funeral expenses or civil liability up to 3 thousand 500 pesos. This is an innovation that seeks to provide peace of mind to families,” said León González.
The secretary also mentioned that the policy includes a deductible for most coverages, although he assured that this is minimal compared to the benefits offered.
According to the municipal official, “in 2024, 238 policies were collected out of around 300 reports that were received. Some did not proceed because they did not meet the reporting criteria. This year, with adjustments in coverage and costs, we hope that more citizens will make use of this benefit.”
The policy is obtained automatically when paying the property tax in January, thus encouraging the participation of taxpayers. This initiative, together with discounts of up to 12% in January and 8% in February, seeks to encourage compliance with citizen obligations.
“This insurance is a tool to face unforeseen events and provides financial support in difficult situations,” concluded León González.
