Which vehicles will not pay renewal in Nuevo León in 2025?
According to the regulations in force in Nuevo León, the vehicles that are exempt from paying this tax are those vehicles powered entirely by electric energy, that is; 100% electric cars.
On the other hand, the reference to an invoice value of less than 250 thousand pesos does not constitute a valid criterion for exemption from paying this state tax.
While the cars that are considered as mandatory to make the 2025 ownership payment are considered the following: Vehicles with state plates, regardless of their age, model, brand or type, as well as vehicles older than 5 years.
How can I pay my ownership in Nuevo León?
Taxpayers required to make their 2025 ownership payment in Nuevo León may do so through a face-to-face module in the state or through the official portal of the Vehicle Control Institute.

Click on the option “Payment of renewal”
Select “Apply online”
Enter the license plate number of your vehicle in capital letters and without spaces
Verify the amount to be paid
Download the payment form or make the payment directly from your electronic banking platform

What happens if I do not pay my vehicle renewal in Nuevo León?
According to the ICV of Nuevo León, those who do not comply with the payment of the vehicle renewal in Nuevo León may be subject to the following sanctions:
Traffic fine ranging from 2 to 4 Measurement and Update Units (UMA). In 2024, this is equivalent to between 217.14 pesos and 434.28 pesos.
Disqualification from carrying out vehicle procedures, such as re-registration or verification.
Accumulation of surcharges and interest.
If your vehicle goes to the impound lot, it will be difficult to get it out because they will ask you to regularize the pending payments.
In case the plates that were not updated, they will be automatically removed from the registry and will be subject to traffic regulations.
