The state of Guanajuato was nominated in two categories of the prestigious Excelencias 2025 Awards, which will be presented as part of the activities of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Spain, where the Ministry of Tourism and Identity will participate in promoting the state.

FITUR is one of the most important events in global tourism, bringing together the main actors in the sector, highlighting innovative projects and experiences that drive tourism development at an international level.

In the Excelencias Gourmet category, the “Encuentro de Cocina Tradicional” event highlights the gastronomic wealth of Guanajuato and Mexico with a multi-day showcase of Guanajuato flavors, and which in 2024 celebrated its 12th edition in order to rescue, preserve, promote and disseminate traditional gastronomy.

This event brings together and brings together the flavors of cooks from the 46 municipalities of the state, highlighting dishes with endemic ingredients and traditional techniques that have been inherited from generation to generation, such as capon broth, mole de xoconostle, gorditas de horno de piloncillo, menudo tatemado, among many other dishes of traditional cuisine.

The Traditional Cuisine Meeting also seeks to recognize the best dishes from each region, so through specialist chefs from Guanajuato we seek to highlight the best techniques and flavors of our traditional cuisine.

In addition, it highlights dishes from previous editions of each region in Guanajuato such as: blue tamales with chile and piloncillo and charalitos broth with bean tamal, which reflect the culinary diversity and creativity of the region.

The tradition of female and male chefs emerged as a way to preserve culinary heritage, recognizing the role of women in transmitting history and culture through gastronomy.

Also because the majority of visitors come motivated by this culinary wealth that honors the great Mexican cuisine, and also promotes the local economy and social cohesion.

In the category of Tourist Excellence, La Casona Minera, located in the Magical Town, Mineral de Pozos, in San Luis de la Paz, represents the union between history, tradition and luxury.

This Magical Town, known in the 19th century as Ciudad Porfirio Díaz, was an important mining center until the decline of the industry. Today, Mineral de Pozos re-emerges as a tourist destination that combines its ruins, legends and landscapes with high-end spaces such as La Casona Minera.

The hotel, which is inspired by the mining estates of the mining boom, is a tribute to the historical wealth of the region. Its adobe and caliche walls, typical of colonial architecture, tell stories of a vibrant past while its modern facilities offer a luxurious experience.

This emblematic site has hosted national and international personalities, consolidating itself as one of the best boutique accommodations in the country. In addition to having a SPA called Caliche that offers true experiences of comprehensive and deep relaxation, such as mezcal, lavender and gold baths, and some other seasonal themes such as the marigold tub during the Day of the Dead dates, as a way of paying homage to Mexico.

In this way, the user is incorporated with innovation and the use of technology in therapeutic baths with virtual reality viewers, breaking schemes in the creation of multisensory experiences.

La Casona Minera also developed tourist experiences around Mezcal, the second denomination of origin in the state of Guanajuato in addition to Tequila, where they offer visitors a guided tour of the old mezcal haciendas in the region.

With these nominations, Guanajuato reaffirms its commitment to tourism excellence. The preservation of its gastronomy and the revitalization of historic spaces such as La Casona Minera demonstrate the joint effort of communities, businessmen and authorities to position the state as an unparalleled destination.
