A community operation successfully culminated with the rescue of Taylor Bayford, a former US Marine who had been reported missing since the night of December 31 in Baja California Sur.

The man, visiting the Los Planes region, attended a New Year’s Eve festival at Rancho La Poderosa, where he was last seen around 9:00 p.m.

Concern began when, the next day, he did not show up for the scheduled activities, which led his friends to search for him without success in the surroundings of the lodging and the festival site.

They finally found his open truck and his abandoned cell phone at the camp, but with no trace of him. Given the lack of immediate action by the authorities, the community organized to undertake the search.

With the support of local and foreign residents, as well as volunteers from the neighboring towns of El Sargento and La Ventana, ranches and roads in the vicinity were explored. The use of drones and the collaboration of several communities were crucial.

Bayford was eventually found in a spot near the La Paz-Los Planes highway. He had a broken leg, which prevented him from moving, so he was quickly transferred to receive medical attention.

The former marine, known for his survival skills, managed to stay alive despite the adverse conditions of the desert. He is currently stable and under medical observation.
