Undoubtedly, 2024 was a great year for Nuevo León in economic terms. It is ranked, no less, in first place nationwide in indicators such as job creation and foreign direct investment, among others.
In the state, 17,052 new jobs are generated for every million inhabitants. Thus, it is at the top in this area. As of October of this year, 104,547 jobs had been accumulated, representing 17.6% of the national total.
Regarding foreign direct investment, from October 2021 to August 2024, there are 287 confirmed projects that represent more than 67 billion dollars and the generation of more than 277 thousand jobs in the following years. On the other hand, Governor Samuel García has publicly expressed that there are 150 investments and 137 expansions in the pipeline.
GOOD RESULTS
Geographic location, human capital and infrastructure are the factors that have positioned Nuevo León as the best place in the country to invest.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Economy last September, Nuevo León captures 76% of the country’s nearshoring and has a record of 56 billion dollars in exports. In fact, it is projected that the new Gloria-Colombia highway, inaugurated last October, and the adaptation of the northern highway, will contribute to better results in terms of exports.
Authorities also assure that the entity is already an electromobility hub, because 30 of the 53 foreign direct investment projects in the automotive sector have to do with this area, representing more than 14 billion dollars and more than 28 thousand jobs for the following years.
Industrial sector
Máximo Vedoya, president of the Chamber of the Transformation Industry of Nuevo León (CAINTRA), which brings together 3,800 partners, of which 83% are SMEs, was satisfied with the results in the industrial sector in 2024.
“We are seeing a good end to the year. That is, the GDP grew or will grow in Nuevo León by almost 2.5%, it is greater than the growth that all of Mexico had or will have, so it is very positive, job creation is also good,” he said during a press conference in November.
He described the end of the year as positive, considering the international context, where the economy was declining, due to the increase in the interest rate. In Vedoya’s opinion, what is happening in the world strengthens the industry of Nuevo León, which is manufacturing, generating jobs and predominantly at the forefront of sustainability.
“This context, where the world is becoming regionalized, is what strengthens us and what favors us to be able to invest more, to be able to develop, so that this nearshoring phenomenon becomes a reality,” he added.
Elections in the United States
Regarding the results of the election year that took place in both Mexico and the United States, Vedoya warned that there is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship with North America.
The Mexican administration is going to do everything possible to make this happen, and for the relationship with the United States to be maintained,” he said. He also highlighted that the fight against poverty is one of the priorities on the CAINTRA agenda, which is materialized through the generation of more and better jobs in the industry.
Regarding the mobility crisis experienced in Nuevo León, with the shortage of units and urban routes, he said that the position of the organization is that the Law of Sustainable Mobility of the State of Nuevo León works and that the Governing Boards of the Mobility Institute are held.
“This is a critical issue for the entire population of Nuevo Leon and in particular for all our employees, who are the ones who travel to and from their workplaces,” he added.
