Four criminal camps destroyed in Villanueva, Zacatecas

A total of four camps, allegedly used by members of organized crime, were located and destroyed in Zacatecas, after security elements located the facilities among trees.

The destruction of the clandestine camps was carried out by agents of the three levels of government in the municipality of Villanueva, specifically in the vicinity of the community of La Quemada.

“In a coordinated action by the Security Forces of the three levels of government, four camps allegedly used by criminal groups were located and destroyed,” is part of what was reported by the authorities on Tuesday, January 7.

When the people who used the camps hidden among the trees noticed the presence of the security agents, they abandoned the facilities.

Among the things found in the camps were tents, kitchen items in large quantities, blankets, clothing and food. These facilities were destroyed with the objective of not being used again by members of criminal groups.

Likewise, a security perimeter and reconnaissance were established in the area, without any arrests being reported. Elements of the Army, the National Guard, the Rural Operations Group of Zacatecas (GORUZ) of the State Preventive Police (PEP) and the Investigative Police of Zacatecas participated in the actions. the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Zacatecas (FGJEZ).

Other camps seized in Michoacán

On Tuesday, January 7, authorities in Michoacán also seized two clandestine camps and two vehicles reported stolen.

“Together with the #MexicanArmy and the @GN_MEXICO_ we destroyed 2 clandestine camps in the municipality of Apatzingán, allegedly used for illegal activities; we also seized 2 trucks reported stolen,” is part of the message from the state’s Public Security Secretariat (SSP) on its social networks.

Previously in Apatzingán, three bodies were found whose victims would be related to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), according to local media. In the same municipality and in different actions, seven alleged members of Los Caballeros Templarios were arrested.

Both structures are in conflict with each other and at the end of 2024 a recording was circulated in which armed men who identified themselves as members of the CJNG were asking residents for information about their rivals. “Pura gente del Señor Mencho y del jefe 3” (Pure people of Mr. Mencho and Chief 3) is part of what the armed men said in the video.
