Jesus Macias, a Mexican father who was “too old for his children” in Rockford, was shot to death while enjoying his vacation in Zacatecas, Mexico.
From the city of Cherry Valley, Illinois, the 63-year-old man traveled by car to his country of origin, to spend the holidays with his family.
On Monday, December 30, he went to buy a stove for his mother. He went out with her, his wife and the youngest of his 5 children, to perform “an act of love” that led to “his death,” declared Pastor Julie Contreras, of the organization ‘United Giving Hope’.
According to his relatives, when Jesus Macias returned to the house in the municipality of Villanueva, he noticed that there was an “improvised checkpoint,” supposedly operated by armed men.
Fearful for the safety of his family – his mother, wife and son – the Rockford resident reportedly decided not to stop.
“My uncle was a very good man and a hard worker […] He was a good, good brother,” said Lucero Rivas about her uncle Jesus.
Desperate, the family of this father said that the Mexican authorities have not offered answers about the murder.
That it be investigated from the United States
Together with Pastor Julie Contreras, of ‘United Giving Hope’, the family of Jesus Macias asked for the intervention of the American agencies in the investigation.
“We want the government of the United States, the State Department, Senator Tammy Duckworth and the FBI, to do a thorough investigation for our brother, father, uncle, friend… We ask for justice and that those criminals who took his life by gun violence, be imprisoned and pay for the damage they have done and for the life of this human being,” said Pastor Contreras.
On the other hand, the journalist Carmen Vargas contacted the authorities of the municipality of Villanueva – Zacatecas in search of confirming the family’s version, but was referred to the Public Ministry, which did not answer the calls.
