President Sheinbaum Calls for Review of Beach Access Restrictions in Jalisco and Nayarit

During her morning conference on January 7 at the National Palace, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo voiced her concerns about the lack of public access to beaches in Jalisco and Nayarit. This issue arose following citizen complaints about real estate developments that restrict access and pose associated risks.

Sheinbaum highlighted that the affected beach stretches span kilometers, making it nearly impossible for the public to access these areas. She emphasized that beaches are public spaces, and their use must be guaranteed for everyone.

In response to the situation, President Sheinbaum requested the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) to review the real estate projects and environmental conditions of the affected federal zones. While land use falls under municipal jurisdiction, Sheinbaum stated that they would seek alternatives to ensure access from both environmental and legal perspectives.

This initiative aims to address the growing concern over beach privatization and its impact on the environment and the public’s right to enjoy these spaces.
