The case of the former US Marine who disappeared after attending a New Year’s Eve festival in Los Planes, Baja California Sur, has raised concerns among foreign residents of the state.
However, after an intense search by his friends, volunteers and local residents, he was finally found safe, with only a leg injury that prevented him from walking, but in stable condition.

The foreign tourist named Taylor Bayford was last seen on the night of December 31 during an event at the Rancho La Poderosa, located in Los Planes, 56 kilometers from La Paz.
His friends said they saw him that night, but when he did not appear the next day at the activities they had planned, they began to worry. When they searched for him, they found his truck open, which further increased the concern among his friends about where he was.
Since the authorities asked them to wait 72 hours supposedly to start an official search, they decided to act on their own. They organized with neighbors from nearby communities, such as El Sargento and La Ventana, using drones to travel through ranches and trails in order to find him.
Thus, after an intense search, they found him with a leg injury that prevented him from continuing to walk. Although at first it was thought that he had a fracture, this was later ruled out.

Taylor was found in a spot, dehydrated and with a leg injury, although it was not fractured. He said that he hurt himself while trying to climb to look for a signal on his phone. But when he tried, he held on to a climbing plant, known as a vine, but it tore his skin when it prevented him from falling completely.

After much speculation, a woman named Ma Lev, who participated in his search, shared on social media a supposed letter of thanks written by him.
The woman explained that she decided to publish the message to clarify rumors, such as the false idea that Taylor had a broken leg. In addition, she mentioned that he does not use social media, so she shared the message on his behalf.
She commented that she received many questions about what happened, especially about the former marine’s health status. Faced with confusion due to incorrect information, she clarified that his leg was not broken, but injured due to physical effort and the conditions of the terrain.
In his letter, the man was grateful to those who participated in his rescue. He also said that he spent days lost with problems walking due to the injury, dehydrated and cold at night.
He said that when he tried to find a signal on his phone to send his location, his support cane broke, causing him to fall. Although he managed to avoid a major accident by holding on to a climbing plant, it caused an injury to his leg.
He especially thanked Ma Lev and the people who joined in to search for him, including volunteers, residents and friends. He also mentioned that he plans to tell his experience in a blog or some similar space.
