President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced plans to implement a scheme in Acapulco similar to the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur) used in Cancun and Ixtapa. This initiative aims to enhance the maintenance of Acapulco’s central area.

“A scheme similar to that of Cancun or Ixtapa is being developed with Fonatur to manage the maintenance of Acapulco’s central area,” Sheinbaum stated. She also mentioned plans for a special project targeting Acapulco’s historic center, coastline, and the creation of safe pathways for women.

Sheinbaum will spend three days next week in Guerrero to follow up on the state’s needs and ongoing actions, particularly in Acapulco. She reiterated the investment in Acapulco and the entire state of Guerrero, including the construction of the highway from La Unión to Toluca, which remains in poor condition in some sections.

She highlighted that several issues caused by Hurricane John are still being addressed, particularly damaged bridges and roads. Projects related to water management and raising pumping plants are also underway to prevent future flooding from affecting the pumps. Additionally, a comprehensive sanitation program for Acapulco continues, involving river dredging, treatment plant rehabilitation, and generating a scheme to ensure sufficient resources for maintenance.
