Between 2023 and 2024, foreign direct investment registered a 14.9 percent drop in Michoacán, said economist Heliodoro Gil Corona.
The former president of the College of Economists said that the entity went from 205 to 175 million dollars in foreign investment. Gil Corona said that 2021 was the best year for investment, as 1,058 million dollars were registered.
“The resources that reach Michoacán from abroad to boost industrial activity are very scarce,” stressed the economist. Gil Corona pointed out that there are several factors that impact the low investment in Michoacán. One of them is the aging of the production plant that is installed, as well as the accelerated loss of the participation of the industrial sector in the generation of gross domestic product, low value-added chains and the absence of value chains linked to the knowledge processes of new technologies.
