In 2024, Michoacán ranked third in the country with the most cases of intentional homicides against minors, according to the annual report of the National Network for the Rights of Children in Mexico (Redim). Throughout the country, 2,243 homicides of people between 0 and 17 years old were confirmed, 456 women and 1,787 men, the official document of the organization states, 6.5 percent more than in 2023.
“The three states with the highest number of homicides of children and adolescents: Guanajuato, Michoacán and the State of Mexico,” the first with 143, the second with 79 and Michoacán with 74. Michoacán is followed by Chihuahua and Jalisco, with 61 and 58 respectively, thus making up the top five entities with the most homicides of minors, and they accumulate two out of every five cases registered in the entire year 2024.
