3,500 vehicles were stolen in Querétaro during 2024

During the year that just ended, the state of Querétaro registered the theft of 3,553 vehicles, which represented a daily average of 9.7 stolen units. The above, according to data from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.

According to federal data, this figure represented 2.2% of the total theft in the country, which was 156,785 vehicles. However, it also represented a slight decrease of 1.6% compared to the 3,612 vehicles stolen in 2023.

Since the start of the registry of stolen vehicles, in January 2018, Querétaro has accumulated 27,700 reports of this crime as of January 10. These numbers position it as the 13th entity with the highest theft of units nationwide, above entities such as Nuevo León, Tamaulipas or Guerrero.

The State of Mexico leads the list with 315,847 stolen vehicles, which represents 25% of this crime in the entire country. Baja California follows with 106,222 units, Jalisco with 101,745, Guanajuato with 90,103, Puebla with 72,602, Mexico City with 72,364, Michoacán with 48,060, Veracruz with 46,568, San Luis Potosí with 38,350 and Chihuahua closes the top 10 with 36,371.

Since January 2018, the number of stolen vehicles registered is 1,262,641. The central area, where Querétaro is located, is where the most stolen units have been reported with 44%, followed by the western area with 24%, the northwestern area with 15%, the southeastern area with 10% and the northeastern area with 10%.

According to the Querétaro Citizen Security Secretariat, the State Police recovered 1,106 units reported stolen during 2024, which represented an increase of 9.1% compared to those recovered in 2023. In addition, the State Attorney General’s Office reported 870 units recovered throughout last year.
