Through an operation carried out by federal and state authorities in Chiapas, a businessman who was kidnapped was released alive. In these actions, seven individuals of six different nationalities were arrested for their probable participation in the events.

The victim was rescued on Sunday, January 12 in the municipality of Tapachula, after the authorities received a complaint about a person who was deprived of liberty in the Paraíso subdivision.

This is how elements of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the National Defense, the Navy (Semar) and the PACAL Immediate Reaction Force Group (FRIP) moved to the indicated place to corroborate the reports. Once in the referred subdivision, the uniformed officers confirmed that there was a kidnapped person.

Given this situation, the authorities proceeded to deploy an operation to free the victim. This was achieved through the arrest of seven people of Honduran, Guatemalan, Cuban, Panamanian, Colombian and Mexican nationality.

The detained subjects were identified as: Camil “N”, alias “El Charly” (Guatemala); Antonio “N”, alias “El Cholo” (Mexico); Carlos “N”, alias “El Chaparro” (Colombia); Johan “N” (Colombia); Josué “N” (Honduras), Héctor “N” (Panama) and Gerardo “N” (Cuba).

During these operations, three M4-type long weapons, 9 magazines loaded with 30 5.56 x 45 mm caliber cartridges, 4 magazines with 30 7.62 mm cartridges, 3 9 mm magazines, 4 homemade bombs, a fragmentation grenade, various 7.62 mm caliber cartridges, a vest with two ballistic plates, caps and a Honda brand vehicle were also seized.

It was reported that the released businessman —whose identity was kept confidential— received support from the Chiapas authorities. However, it is unknown how long he was deprived of his freedom.

“The victim is receiving multidisciplinary support; while the accused were placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities, so that investigations can be carried out and proceeded according to law,” detailed the FGE.

Between January and November of last year, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) registered 310 cases of the crime against personal freedom in the state of Chiapas. Of that total, 18 were classified as kidnapping.

During that period, four victims of extortionate kidnapping were recorded, two as hostages, two “express” and 10 with the intention of “causing damage.” November was the month with the highest number of cases, with a total of four. In February and September, no kidnappings were recorded in Chiapas territory.
