Official air ambulance crashes at Oaxaca international airport

An official air ambulance crashed this afternoon on the runway of the Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán international airport during a maneuver, due to a mechanical failure. No fatalities have been reported.

In this regard, the government of Oaxaca reported that on Tuesday afternoon the Agusta A109-E helicopter suffered an accident, one and a half meters from the 01 runway of the Oaxaca airport, when it was performing landing maneuvers, whose crew suffered minor injuries.

“The aircraft was carrying out training tasks, called a verification flight for the acquisition of capacity by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency, in the vicinity of the Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán Airport,” says a statement.

On his social networks, the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, wrote: “This Tuesday a training flight was taking place at the Airport of our state, when performing a descent maneuver just a meter and a half from the ground, a resonance occurred on the ground that caused a bad landing when touching, fortunately the crew did not have major injuries.”

The president assured that this maneuver was carried out with all the security protocols established by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency and it will be the same one that carries out a broader investigation and determines the causes of this event.

Immediately after the incident, the attention protocols were activated by the Fire Rescue Corps (CREI) of the same airport.

The crew on board was made up of a captain pilot, an accredited instructor and a examiner, as established by said agency.

The Federal Civil Aviation Agency is responsible for investigating and determining the causes of this mishap, whose representatives immediately arrived at the scene and began the respective proceedings.

The Official Hangar of the State Government announced that this aircraft has all maintenance services up to date, as established by the manufacturer and in accordance with what is dictated by the aeronautical authorities. The last inspections correspond to December 26, 2024, showing airworthy conditions for its operation.
