Querétaro has one of the main theater corridors in the country. There are performances in its different forums and stages practically all year round, and companies make the effort to take their productions to remote places in the state, where few people have enjoyed this art.
It is for this reason that every year the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Querétaro (Secult), in collaboration with the Advisory Council of Theater (CCT), carry out the State Theater Showcase (Met), in which they present a selection of works, which are chosen through an open call for their dramaturgy, direction and production.
They seek to promote reading, writing and local literature
This 2025, 133 artists from 19 companies will participate in 19 performances that will take place in public and private venues in Querétaro and Corregidora, from January 15 to 19; admission will be free.
For this edition, the head of Secult, Ana Paola López Birlain, reported at a press conference that they had an investment of 400 thousand pesos, which was allocated to the fees of the participating groups.
The official mentioned that the call was opened at the end of 2024, and they received 46 registrations, of which only one proposal was disqualified for arriving late.
The Met is an important platform for the sector, highlighted representatives of the CCT, since it allows them to attract a captive audience. Of the total number of companies, 15% are emerging and are participating in the meeting for the first time, added Cecilia García.
The actress and theater director also reported that this year the billboard features projects that address masculinities, bullying, colonization, and relationships, among other topics.
In addition, she added that, for the first time in the history of the Met, they will open a space at the end of each performance that they have called Disassembly, so that the public can interact with the artists on stage.
Details of the 2024 State Theatre Showcase, such as schedules, synopsis, classification and venue locations, can be found on the schedule available on the social media of the State Secretariat of Culture and the Theatre Advisory Council.
