Although winter has barely begun, we already have a taste of spring’s exuberance, as the dates for the sixth edition of the Flowers and Gardens Festival (FYJA), an event dedicated to the diversity of plants and flowers in Mexico, have already been announced.
What is the Flowers and Gardens Festival?
The Flowers and Gardens Festival is an annual event whose objective is to showcase the rich plant diversity and floral and botanical tradition of Mexico through impressive installations and sculptures made with plants and flowers that adorn the streets and shops of the Polanco area, as well as talks and other activities.
It was founded in 2017 by Patricia Elías Calles, who was inspired by the Chelsea Flower Show in London, the most prestigious festival of its kind in the world.
In its first edition, it had two venues: the Botanical Garden of Chapultepec Forest, where the FYJA Botánico was held, and the FYJA Polanco en Flores, where monumental arrangements were installed on the facades of Avenida Presidente Masaryk and surrounding streets in CDMX.
Over time, Polanco en Flores grew and became the main attraction of the festival thanks to its striking decorations and the fact that it is free to enter.
In addition, last year the FYJA expanded with an additional event: Festival en Campo, held in Campo Marte (next to the National Auditorium), which offered a program of activities (with a fee) related to landscape design, gardening, floral design, and environmental education.
What will the Flores y Jardines Festival 2025 be like?
Each year, the FYJA adopts a different theme. In 2024 it was ‘The Garden of Amazing Beings’ and was dedicated to all the beings that make up nature: from microscopic organisms, fungi, insects, birds, amphibians, mammals and, of course, flowers.
For its sixth edition, the theme will be ‘Gardens of the Future’.
According to a post on its official Facebook: its wish “is to create a space for creative experimentation to imagine and explore the time to come. A time full of challenges and challenges that we will have to encounter as a society and as individuals.”
In addition, the FYJA opened the call for the creation of a floral arch that will be displayed in Parque América, located on Avenida Horacio, between Alejandro Dumas and Anatole France streets, in Polanco.
So far this is the only official information shared by the organizers.
When will the Flowers and Gardens Festival 2025 be?
Officially, the FYJA has announced that the 2025 edition will take place from April 3 to 6.
