The Mexican government announced that it will invest 35.9 billion pesos in the construction and repair of 263 kilometers of roads.

At the morning press conference at the National Palace, the Minister of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Esteva, pointed out that with this action they hope to generate more than 253 thousand jobs.

“The investment throughout the entire Administration (of President Claudia Sheinbaum) will be close to 150 billion pesos for road infrastructure,” he declared.

The projects include continuity works that began during the presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), maintenance and expansion of roads, construction of bridges, and support from the National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin), said Esteva Medina.

Among the works, the official mentioned the Cuautla to Marquelia highway in the states of Guerrero, Morelos and Puebla, in the center of the country; from Pachuca to Tamazunchale in the central states of Hidalgo and San Luis Potosí, as well as from Bavispe to Nuevo Casas Grandes, in Sonora and Chihuahua, in the north.

There is also the Tierra y Libertad Circuit in Morelos, the road from Toluca to Zihuatanejo in the State of Mexico and Guerrero, and from Salina Cruz to Zihuatanejo, in Oaxaca and Guerrero, both in the south.

The list is completed by the highway from Macuspana to Escárcega in the southern states of Tabasco and Camapeche; from Ciudad Valles to Tampico, in San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas, and the Transpeninsular highway in Baja California.

Mexico has almost 54 thousand kilometers in its federal highway network, of which 10 thousand 614 kilometers are toll roads and the rest are toll-free, the secretary recalled.

“There are several highways missing, the objective is to build them during the six-year term, what we are announcing today is which ones will begin this year. “How did we make that decision? Paying attention precisely to connectivity,” said President Claudia Sheinbaum.
