Parents of students at the “Agustín Vadillo Cicero” high school in the El Fénix neighborhood of Mérida are demanding greater security measures after a man posing as a psychologist entered a classroom and threatened students.
The incident occurred last Monday in a third-grade classroom, shortly after the start of the school day. The man claimed to be part of the teaching staff and said he was sent by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). Once inside, he began issuing threats of punishment and claimed to know where the students lived.
According to student testimonies, the man said he had failed to become a teacher because “Satan” had prevented him and hurled insults at the students. The man left the school without the police being called, and school authorities only informed parents of the incident the following day.
Parents expressed their outrage, questioning how an outsider could enter the school, lock himself in with students, and make inappropriate comments, including suggestions of suicide. They criticized the school authorities for not notifying them immediately.
The Education Secretariat confirmed that they had not sent a psychologist to the school. In response, parents have demanded increased security measures and have agreed with school authorities to file a formal complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
This incident has highlighted the need for stricter security protocols to ensure the safety of students in educational institutions.
