Several surveillance cameras that were illegally installed on streets in the Veracruz – Boca del Río metropolitan area were removed in a joint operation that was carried out this Tuesday, January 14, 2025 by federal and state forces.

Federal forces reported that in the municipality of Boca del Río, personnel from the Mexican Army and the National Guard (GN), in coordination with the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), dismantled 12 video cameras that were placed on public roads in illegal use.

Likewise, they confirmed that surveillance cameras that were illegally placed in the town of Santa Fe, the El Coyol Housing Unit, on Victoria Avenue in the Centro neighborhood and on Lafragua Avenue in the Moderno subdivision were detected and removed.

The equipment was made available to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Veracruz, which will be in charge of investigating the origin and use of the surveillance camera system.

On January 13, in the northern part of the state of Veracruz, a joint operation was carried out between federal forces to dismantle surveillance video cameras that were installed illegally on public roads, reported the Navy (SEMAR).

The SEMAR detailed that in the municipality of Poza Rica, 29 illegal video cameras were uninstalled, while the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) reported that personnel assigned to the Command of the 19th Military Zone removed 10 video cameras.

As with the cameras removed in the metropolitan area of ​​Veracruz – Boca del Río, they were handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office, to determine responsibilities. The Sedena and the SEMAR, in official information released separately, indicated that it is presumed that the cameras were used by criminal groups to coordinate criminal activities and monitor movements of public security authorities.
