A total of 106 mayors from Yucatan are traveling to Mexico City to participate in the National Municipal Meeting, which will bring together governors and mayors from across the country. The event, taking place today at the National Palace with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, aims to secure more federal support for urban infrastructure projects such as street paving, public lighting, and the expansion of drinking water networks.

Among the first group of mayors who traveled yesterday were Ramón Alejandro Estrella Pool from Teya, Job Joel Poot Kuk from Dzilam González, Julio César Soberanis Argüelles from Tahmek, Jorge Ricardo Kuh Méndez from Tunkás, Samuel Mayen Poot from Samahil, Agustín Moo Herrera from Sanahcat, Gerónimo Medina Trejo from Dzilam de Bravo, and Fredi Evaristo Interián Bojórquez from Maní.

Julio César Soberanis Argüelles, the mayor of Tahmek, emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating that they will ask President Sheinbaum for more support for Yucatecan municipalities. He highlighted the financial challenges faced by local administrations due to empty municipal coffers left by previous administrations and budget cuts.

The remaining 98 mayors traveled on flights throughout the day yesterday. The National Municipal Meeting will address issues related to security, urban development, and the optimization of public resources. It also aims to promote strategic projects through the collaboration of resources from the three levels of government over the next three years.
