Drug trafficking in Sinaloa: 20 cars and 2,800 kilos of cocaine seized in Mazatlán

20 vehicles, including two armored trucks, and an arsenal of weapons were seized by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), while the Navy made a multimillion-dollar hit by confiscating a significant shipment of cocaine and other chemicals to produce drugs in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. In addition, 12 people were reported arrested.

In the first event, the SSPC carried out an operation in the community of San Francisquito, Mazatlán, where the military were carrying out security actions when they were shot by a criminal group, it is unknown if it was from a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel.

After the confrontation, the inter-institutional group of the Sedena, the National Guard and the Navy, arrested three civilians and seized weapons consisting of two machine guns, seven long weapons, six handguns, 3,313 cartridges of different calibers, 218 magazines, two grenades, an explosive device and 20 cars, two of them armored.

The Navy dealt a major blow to drug trafficking by detecting three boats coming from Baja California Sur, where they seized various products to make drugs.

2,800 kilos of cocaine, which was distributed in 73 black packages with 2,190 brick-type packages.

In addition, the first boat was carrying 16 drums and a tank bucket with 1,550 liters of fuel. In another boat, 2,190 kilograms of cocaine, 26 drums and a tank bucket of 1,420 liters of fuel were found.

The occupants of the boats were put at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, although the number of people arrested was not determined.

These actions by federal forces have intensified in the port of Mazatlán to guarantee the safety of citizens and tourists who visit the port during the winter season.

Family shot in Culiacán

In addition, early Sunday morning, January 19, a family was chased with gunfire, which left one adult dead and three minors injured, but hours later one of the children died while being treated in a hospital.

The events occurred shortly after one in the morning on California Boulevard, between Hermosa and Pomona streets in the Los Angeles subdivision, west of the city, towards the exit to the Imala beach resort.

According to the report from the Sinaloa State Police, the family was traveling in a recent model gray Toyota Yaris when they were passing through California Boulevard and were attacked by an armed group.

A chase ensued through several streets until the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the gunshot wounds that caused his death. He was identified as Antonio de Jesús, 40 years old.

The three minors who were also traveling in the car were injured by gunshot wounds. Gael Antonio, 12 years old, Luis Adolfo, 17 years old, and Alexander, 9 years old, were taken to the General Hospital of Culiacán.

This morning the death of the minor Gael Antonio was confirmed when he was being treated at the Los Angeles Hospital in Culiacán. He had gunshot wounds to the chest.

The bodies were taken to the Forensic Medical Service, while the Directorate of Forensic Investigation began the investigations.
