Cuban artist Henry Wilson Albuernes is set to captivate audiences at the 2025 Mazatlán International Carnival “La Perla” with his imaginative and artistic creations. Wilson, who has resided in Mazatlán for several years, will construct seven floats and three illuminated puppets, each standing 11 meters tall, to herald the arrival of the carnival.

Wilson’s works, which are 90 percent complete, draw inspiration from pirate tales, children’s games, Mazatlán’s rich history, and the centenary of the floral games. His team of papier-mâché experts, electricians, painters, and blacksmiths are working tirelessly to bring these colossal structures to life.

“We are surpassing ourselves this year with larger puppets, more lights, and new effects,” said Wilson. “It’s an honor to work for the Institute of Culture of Mazatlán. Despite the challenges, our team is ready to deliver.”

The W Crearte team, responsible for the floats, has completed 60 percent of the work. The floats will be ready for the grand parades on Sunday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 4.

Wilson’s participation aims to immerse attendees in a festive atmosphere, making his puppets and floats an unforgettable visual experience. The Mazatlán International Carnival will take place from February 27 to March 4.
