The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, and the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, have joined forces to improve the road infrastructure in the region, strengthening connectivity between Sonora and Chihuahua with the construction of the Bavispe-Nuevo Casas Grandes highway.

This work, which represents one of the priorities within the Mexico Plan for 2025, seeks to promote economic, commercial and tourism development in the northwest of the country.

Key management for Sonora

In his message, Durazo highlighted that the Bavispe-Nuevo Casas Grandes highway project is an initiative promoted by his administration, which has received strong support from President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The state leader stressed that this project is part of the federation’s commitment to improve infrastructure in Sonora, which has also been reflected in other social development and sustainability works.

Details of the work

The new highway, which covers a stretch of 69 kilometers, will connect the states of Sonora and Chihuahua, with an investment of 1,859 million pesos throughout 2025.

Durazo pointed out that this project will not only optimize connectivity between both states, but will also promote tourism and the regional economy.

“With this work, promoted by our president Claudia Sheinbaum, we will connect Sonora and Chihuahua, strengthening connectivity and generating a positive impact on the families of our region,” he said.

Economic impact

The construction of this highway has great potential to boost the economy in the Sierra de Sonora. The new infrastructure will facilitate access to regions such as Agua Prieta and improve the circulation of visitors, both national and international, especially from the United States and nearby communities.

Alfonso Durazo emphasized that this increase in the flow of people will bring with it an important economic spillover in the towns of the region, benefiting Sonoran families.

With the impetus of this work and other strategic projects, Sonora continues to consolidate its growth, not only through the improvement of its infrastructure, but also by generating new economic opportunities for its inhabitants.
