Escorted by a state patrol and with a sign reading “INM,” a bus carrying people deported by the United States Border Patrol left the Nogales, Sonora border crossing this afternoon on the first day of President Donald Trump’s administration.
Inside the bus, where personnel from the National Migration Institute (INM) were traveling, minors, as well as women and elderly people were observed.
In the morning, Marcos Moreno Báez, Consul General of Mexico in Nogales, Arizona, reported that the strategy to support Mexican migrants who are deported had already been activated at this crossing, and which includes transfer to bus stations and shelters.
In an interview with the media, the Mexican consul stressed that this is part of the orders that President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has instructed.
“We are activating part of the strategy that has been designed as of today. The changes that were also planned in immigration policy are already being implemented, and of course we have been coordinating since yesterday with all the authorities on the Mexican side.
“Remember that the Consulate General of Mexico in Nogales, Arizona, is serving as a bridge between the people who are or will be repatriated and that at all hours. And this includes, of course, the transfer of the repatriated people to the shelters and bus stations in a safe and orderly manner. It is part of the instructions that President Claudia Sheinbaum has instructed,” she said.
