The eviction of a migrant camp in the city of Chihuahua turned into a fight and a fire during the early hours of Saturday.

The operation began around 2 a.m. with the participation of personnel from the National Institute of Migration (INM), elements of the State Public Security Secretariat and the National Guard, with the objective of relocating the migrants and cleaning the area.

Passenger buses also arrived at the place where there were around 200 people in mobility to carry out the transfers, however, some refused and a fight broke out.

To avoid arrests, most of the migrants ran to disperse, while others set fire to the tents, mattresses, clothing and cardboard. So far, no injuries have been reported and no official version of what happened has been released.

After the events, around 20 people were taken to the municipal gymnasium Polideportivo Sur, in the Villa Juárez neighborhood, and it is expected that they will be transferred to their places of origin.

Once the fire was extinguished, the place was guarded by the Municipal Police of Chihuahua.

According to El Heraldo de Chihuahua, after the mega operation, personnel from the Municipal Public Security Directorate, the Urban Maintenance Directorate, and Municipal Public Services began cleaning and debris removal work.

Jorge Armendáriz, spokesman for the agency, told the media that 11 people were detained in the migrant camp, including men, women, and children, during the confrontation and later, during a tour of the camp’s surroundings, they detained another 12 who were escaping from the place.

Chihuahua is not an option for migrants, says governor
The governor of Chihuahua, María Eugenia Campos, said that if the mass deportation of migrants announced by Donald Trump occurs, the state will not be a shelter.

He said 25 processing centers will be set up in the state, but refused to call them shelters because that would imply that migrants could stay.

“They are not shelters, they are processing centers. We are going to receive the migrants when they arrive to process them, take their information and guide them to return to their state or municipality. If we call it a shelter, then they can stay there and they will not stay, at least in the state of Chihuahua it is not an option for the migrants.”

He assured that their dignity and their person will be respected, in addition to providing them with the help they need and they will be transported to other points in the country.

Trump announces that he will deport 11 million migrants

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, assured, in an interview for TIME magazine, that he is willing to use the Army to capture and deport 11 million undocumented migrants.

On November 18, Trump had already confirmed that he would declare a state of national emergency to fulfill his promises of mass deportation.

Regarding his immigration policy, Trump also assured TIME that he will reinforce the border with Mexico through executive orders. At the same time, he will end the “catch and release” program and will also resume construction of the wall.

However, he said that he does not plan to restore the policy of separating children from their families to discourage their families from crossing the border. “I don’t think it will be necessary, because we will send the whole family back,” he said.

Since his victory in the US presidential elections on November 5, Donald Trump has advanced his actions to massively expel migrants. One of his first actions after obtaining victory was to name Tom Homan as “border czar,” a defender of the hardline policy who was already in charge of the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE).

Among his promises is also to end birthright citizenship, enshrined in the US Constitution, and which he plans to withdraw through executive action.

In response to Trump’s actions, the Mexican foreign minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, began touring US consulates to reinforce their services to Mexicans.
