A tragic accident occurred on Monday afternoon on federal highway 307, near the Vidanta hotel, between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen, resulting in one fatality and at least 30 injuries.

The incident happened around 3:00 p.m. when a Del Valle bus transporting workers from the Dorado Maroma hotel struck a woman attempting to cross the road. The impact caused the driver to lose control, leading to a violent collision with the back of a parked trailer.

The woman died at the scene due to severe injuries, while the bus sustained significant damage, injuring several passengers. Emergency teams, including over seven ambulances, firefighters, Civil Protection, and National Guard members, quickly arrived to assist the injured.

Some of the injured, in critical condition, were transported to nearby hospitals. During the rescue operation, one ambulance experienced a flat tire, complicating the transfer efforts.

Authorities cordoned off the area to allow experts from the State Attorney General’s Office to remove the body and collect evidence to determine the accident’s cause.
