Recently, the name of the municipality of Tanhuato, Michoacán, is giving something to talk about, since it is presumed that last Wednesday in the community of Tinaja de Vargas a tribute was held to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho”, leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).

Likewise, the celebration was also for Javier Guerrero Martínez, head of “Los Guerrero”, one of the armed wings of the CJNG. According to videos spread on social networks, the party had fireworks and the participation of the musical band “Charanda Band”.

In addition to this, in the tribute held in the municipality governed by the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) party, a giant photograph with the image of the Michoacan capo was projected on the screens accompanied by the corrido “El del Palenque”.

Given the commotion caused by the clips of the celebration, dozens of Internet users wondered what this municipality is like.

What is Tanhuato, Michoacán like?

Tanhuato de Guerrero is located in the southwest of Michoacán. This place marks the border with the state of Jalisco in the northern area and borders the municipalities of Yurécuaro, Ecuandureo, Ixtlán and Vista Hermosa.

In pre-Hispanic times, Tanhuato was a small town inhabited by Purépechas. In 1530 it was subjected to Spanish rule, like other towns in the region, by the forces commanded by the conquistador Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán.

Currently, the population in Tanhuato is made up of around 15 thousand inhabitants. The main square is considered one of its greatest tourist attractions, as it has a very old temple built in quarry stone and a picturesque kiosk surrounded by large gardens and palm trees.

Quarry stone is a material widely used to decorate its streets, as around the main square you can see several statues and benches made from it.
