To strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Yucatán, Banco Santander and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Mexico have signed a Collaboration Agreement aimed at promoting the region’s productive sectors.
Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena emphasized that the agreement would support SMEs and entrepreneurs through preferential loans, microcredits for young people and entrepreneurs, and financial education programs for women.
During the Trade Mission in Spain, Díaz Mena presented the Maya Renaissance project, which aims to enhance Yucatán’s well-being through innovative and sustainable economic strategies. He expressed gratitude to Spain for its interest in exploring investment opportunities and marketing Yucatecan products.
“This collaboration is key to generating mutual benefits and strengthening the ties that unite our regions,” Díaz Mena stated.
He highlighted Yucatán’s readiness to lead in strategic sectors such as agroindustry, logistics, energy, and sustainable tourism. Díaz Mena led strategic meetings in Madrid to promote investments and international cooperation, with the Maya Renaissance project as a driver of sustainable development.
The Yucatecan delegation also met with the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB) to explore collaboration in internationalization, sustainability, and innovation. Yucatán aims to bring local products like honey, tropical fruits, and processed foods to the European market, learning from FIAB’s strategies to strengthen its international presence. The possibility of Spanish products entering the Mexican market through Yucatán was also discussed.
The meeting sought to foster business exchanges, promote investment in technologies, develop supply chains, and create joint innovation platforms.
Díaz Mena held key meetings with Alicia Varela Donoso, Director General of International Trade and Investments of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business of Spain, and members of FIAB.
