An armed group wearing balaclavas carried out a massive assault against motorists who were traveling on the Puebla-Atlixco highway at kilometer 13, near the town of Chalchihuapan. To achieve their goal, the criminals threw stones on the road with the intention of puncturing the tires of their victims’ vehicles and forcing them to stop, threatening them with firearms and thus completing the robbery.
They assaulted us with a gun, I was the first to have my cell phone taken away and they said that if I didn’t give up my cell phone I would be screwed. I managed to see that they were four men dressed in black and wearing balaclavas.
One of the victims told the authorities
At least twelve vehicles were affected, including some brands such as Urvan, Tsuru, BMW and even a pickup truck, which were stranded for several hours. It is known that most of the victims were returning from work in the city of Puebla.
One group of the victims was mostly elderly women, who reported being hit with the butt of a gun to be robbed of their purses, cell phones, backpacks with personal documents, such as a consultation card, among other papers, as well as cash.
When I got out to check my vehicle, they pointed a gun at me and demanded everything I had
This was reported by one of the victims, while other witnesses confirmed hearing gunshots, which caused panic among those passing through the area; as if that were not enough, while those responsible escaped on foot, the victims tried to contact the emergency line provided on the toll booth tickets, but only got the contact of a tow truck and did not receive immediate help.
It was after calling 911 that the affected people were able to receive attention from the authorities, however, the response was late and they simply approached the point to gather information about what happened and then carry out the corresponding procedures, so the affected people expressed their anger, especially after the recent increase in the cost of the toll.
SSP will increase patrols to avoid similar acts
Regarding the events, the State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported on Wednesday morning that through the emergency number 9-1-1 a report was received from a user who reported having been assaulted on said highway, so personnel were deployed to the area and upon arriving at the scene the victim was detected, as well as two other drivers, who reported having been assaulted.
Finally, the SSP announced that it will increase surveillance, by increasing the state of force and patrols on this stretch of highway, to avoid criminal acts of this type
