After a year of keeping Federal Highway 125 Alfonso Pérez Gazga, which runs through the Mixteca to the Oaxaca Coast, out of service, several crews are patching different spots, following the announcement of a visit by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, next Saturday to verify the condition of the roads and the delivery of support from the Bienestar programs.
Highway 125 had been neglected throughout the 2024 fiscal year, but it so happens that after the announcement by the President of the Republic, the institutions in charge have begun to speed up the work. The poor condition of the road worsened during the constant rains last year, mainly after the passage of Hurricane “John” in September, which caused a temporary and small-section rehabilitation.
The points where the machinery of the brigades of the delegation of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SCIT) are still working are Carrizal Concepción, Curva del Pájaro, as well as in Mesones, San Sebastián Ixcapa and San Juan Cacahuatepec Oaxaca, among other points along highway 125.

And during the morning press conference on Monday, President Sheinbaum Pardo said that this weekend she will be touring some municipalities in the Mixteca region to verify the state of the roads, in addition to inaugurating the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway.
“My goal this weekend is to go to inaugurate the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway, but go down to Pinotepa from Huajuapan de León to visit those roads that are the most affected because they have not been maintained, many of them are state and not federal. But before starting a new road, we want to fix those roads, because they are a necessity for the Mixteca. We are going to talk to people about the issue of roads and the issue of justice for the people of the Mixteca region of Oaxaca,” explained the president.
During her visit to the Mixteca region, she plans to deliver to the beneficiaries of the programs: Welfare Pensions, Women’s Welfare Pensions and fertilizers. Although it is not certain which route she will take to reach the Oaxacan Coast. The president assured that the Mixteca of Guerrero, Puebla and Oaxaca continue to have many needs.
Following the announcement of the visit, several crews are patching different points of these roads where Claudia Sheinbaum would pass. And with this, users have pointed out the simulation of quality work on this communication route: “the asphalt is in terrible condition, it not only requires patching but also its total renovation and walls in the sinkholes. All this has caused multiple accidents and many human deaths in addition to material damages,” they point out.

In this sum of asphalt works, the municipal president of Tlaxiaco, Jorge Octavio, who assumed power at the beginning of this January, also announced the 2025 patching program. “The city of Tlaxiaco, we need to recover in terms of sidewalks, streets, in terms of concrete it is very bad and we want to start working,” he told local media, pointing to José Inés Dávila Avenue as the most neglected among another dozen in the same state.
