Dakatso Company Seeks Contract to Combat Sargassum in Solidaridad

The Dakatso company is seeking a contract with the local City Council to provide its services in combating sargassum, which is expected to have a strong season this year.

Dagoberto Ruiz Lavín, the company’s director, stated that despite past political conflicts and a complaint against the city council for breach of contract worth over six million pesos, they are willing to negotiate and continue their collaboration in the fight against sargassum.

Dakatso began providing services to the Solidaridad City Council in 2018 when the arrival of sargassum intensified. At that time, they were not paid due to a lack of stipulated machinery in the contract, leading to an appeal that is still in litigation.

After nearly six years, Ruiz suggested that the contract cancellation might have been politically motivated, as the company Ar.Co took over with a more expensive contract. However, he assured that Ar.Co is now banned by the federation, while Dakatso remains active.
