This Thursday, citizens called for a demonstration for the murder of brothers Gael and Alexander, along with their father Antonio de Jesús Sarmiento Ruiz, who lost their lives in an attempted robbery last Sunday, January 19, in the Los Ángeles sector, northeast of the city. This was reported by the MX newspaper.
From early morning, thousands of families gathered at the Sócrates Elementary School, where Gael and Alexander studied. Dressed in white and carrying flowers, candles and signs, they began a peaceful march that went along Álvaro Obregón Avenue to the Culiacán City Hall. Between tears and slogans, they demanded justice for the victims and the resignation of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, whom they accuse of not taking effective measures to stop the violence that affects the state.
The protesters walked to the Government Palace, where discontent turned into anger. A group of people broke into the building, causing damage to windows, walls, furniture and offices.
Despite efforts by security personnel to close the doors, teachers, principals, parents and students did not stop. They broke the glass doors and stormed into the Palace, causing at least two people to suffer cuts.
The protesters advanced to the third floor, where Governor Rubén Rocha Moya’s office is located, and tried to force their way in, causing damage to the premises.
Some tried to set fire to the third floor, but other protesters managed to prevent this.
Finally, the protesters withdrew from the Palace, leaving a promise to evaluate the possibility of holding a new march next Sunday.
