The father of the girls who were attacked by the dog had to take out loans exceeding $100,000 to cover medical expenses.
The owner of the pitbull that attacked two girls in Villas del Sol on January 15 has not taken responsibility for the medical expenses. The parents have had to cover more than 120,000 pesos through loans, and the total expenses could exceed 300,000 pesos, according to the father of the victims, Roger David Aquino Díaz.
Samantha Álvarez, director of Environment and Climate Change for the Municipality of Solidaridad, reported that the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has an open investigation into the case. The dog is being held in custody due to the sensitivity of the issue, and authorities will determine its fate, although Álvarez clarified that the dog will not be executed.
On January 15, a pitbull attacked a five-year-old girl and a one-year-and-nine-month-old baby. The girls’ condition is improving, with the eldest’s healing progressing well, although she requires extensive care and follow-up with prescribed medications. The baby’s recovery is slower.
The father stated that the dog’s owner has not shown any concern, made any calls, or shown any interest. On the day the girls were operated on at the hospital, the dog’s owner told the father that he had no money and could only offer 30,000 pesos. He also tried to have the girls transferred to the IMSS, but the father refused due to the severity of the injuries, so they were treated at the Amerimed hospital.
Later, the dog’s owner promised to get 30,000 pesos by the next day, but the need was immediate. Fortunately, a neighbor lent the father 50,000 pesos for his daughters’ health.
The next day, the dog’s owner, Luis Alfredo Torres, arrived at the Prosecutor’s Office with a lawyer. Initially, the legal representative agreed to accept responsibility and pay. However, they later tried to intimidate the father with another lawyer while he was alone.
The father’s lawyer claimed to have a video of the incident, attempting to distort the information by alleging that the girls were playing with the dog. However, the father explained that his house is about 150 meters from where the dog lives, a considerable distance, and that his daughters are afraid of dogs.
