The relics of Saint Jude Thaddeus will arrive in Guadalajara this Friday, they will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral where a mass will be offered, the participation of more than a thousand people is expected.

To guarantee the safety of the attendees, the Government of Guadalajara is preparing a security operation, and also invites the population to respectfully participate in the scheduled events.

What security operation will be applied?

More than 110 elements of various municipal departments will participate in a special operation in conjunction with the Citizen Security Commission, the Directorate of Medical Services, the Coordination of Comprehensive Risk Management, Civil Protection and Firefighters, the Directorate of Mobility and Guadalajara Limpia.

The operation will begin at the intersection of Hidalgo and Mezquitán, the point where the relic will be received, from there, a pilgrimage will begin towards the Metropolitan Cathedral, with a brief stop at the Mercado Corona.

Thousands of faithful hope to venerate the relic

The Archdiocese of Mexico recognizes it as the second most important devotion in the country, after the Virgin of Guadalupe. The relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus arrived in Mexico on July 29, 2024 and has traveled to 24 dioceses in the country. According to estimates, about five million people have participated in religious activities around this relic.

Since its arrival in Jalisco on January 20 in the municipality of Ocotlán, the relic has visited various temples and has gathered thousands of devotees.

Who is Saint Jude Thaddeus?

Saint Jude Thaddeus is the patron saint of hope and impossible causes. He is one of the twelve apostles and cousin of Jesus; for this reason he learned about piety and generosity towards others and, especially, charity towards sinners, marginalized and sick people.

What are the relics of Saint Jude Thaddeus like?

Relics are remains of the body or clothing of someone who was a saint. In the case of those of Saint Jude Thaddeus, it is inside a polychrome wooden carving from the 19th century. It is shaped like a hand and three fingers point upwards, as a sign of blessing.

The piece of bone attributed to the apostle can be seen through glass and is usually in the church of San Salvatore in Lauro, in Rome. Since last July 2024, it was brought by the Vatican nunciature to Mexico to “restore hope to the faithful after the pandemic.”
