Despite being outsold by full-size trucks and crossovers, the redesigned Tacoma dominates its segment and claims a unique distinction as the most popular vehicle built entirely in Mexico.
In a surprising turn of events, the Toyota Tacoma has emerged as the best-selling vehicle assembled exclusively in Mexico. According to recent sales data, the newly redesigned Tacoma topped the list with 192,813 units sold in 2024. This achievement comes as a result of Toyota’s decision to move all Tacoma assembly from its Texas factory to Mexico.
The Tacoma’s success is largely due to its popularity in the midsize pickup truck segment, where it has long been the market leader. However, even within this niche, the Tacoma outsells its closest competitor, the Ford Maverick, by a significant margin of 35,468 units.
But what’s more remarkable about the Tacoma’s achievement is that it becomes the most popular vehicle completely assembled in Mexico, surpassing other vehicles sold in the country, including the Nissan Versa, which moved 83,551 units. This distinction highlights Toyota’s commitment to manufacturing high-quality vehicles in Mexico and its ability to cater to a wider market.
The sales data also reveal that many familiar vehicles on U.S. dealership lots are built exclusively in Mexico, including Ram’s heavy-duty pickup trucks, the Ford Maverick, and the Audi Q5. However, the Tacoma stands out as the only vehicle with 100% of its assembly taking place in Mexico.
Overall, the Toyota Tacoma’s success story serves as a testament to Toyota’s manufacturing capabilities and its ability to adapt to changing market demands.
