The Mérida City Council continues its efforts to detect and clean houses with excessive garbage accumulation.

The Department of Government of the Mérida City Council reported that 32 tons of garbage were removed from a property on 14th Street and 41st Street in the Mayapán neighborhood. This action followed a citizen report detailing various violations of the regulations for Cleaning, Sanitation, and Conservation of Municipal Properties.

In coordination with the Civil Protection Department, Public Services, the Municipal Police, the DIF, and the Health Sub-Department of the Human Welfare Department, six of the eight dogs found on the property were taken into custody. The Environmental Protection Unit will vaccinate, deworm, sterilize, and incorporate them into an adoption program to ensure their well-being.

With the property owner’s authorization, trucks of various sizes were used to remove the waste and transport it to the sanitary landfill.

Carmen González Martín, the director of Government, reported that 20 properties with garbage accumulation have been detected. The City Council is analyzing what actions to take and how to coordinate efforts across different areas to manage each situation properly. Criteria for cleaning properties include the accumulation of flammable material, obstructed sidewalks, and excess garbage.

Recently, the City Council of Mérida removed 90 tons of garbage from a property in Pacabtún.
