In two robberies at the Centro Universitario de la Costa, of the University of Guadalajara in Puerto Vallarta, subjects who posed as personnel from the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection, seized 55 specimens of the Vallarta Shell Turtle, an endangered species with high value on the black market.

The events occurred on December 9 and January 13, for which the university filed the corresponding complaints that include the crimes of fraud, trespassing and breach of trust.

In addition, the University has asked the authorities to reinforce the surveillance tours around this university center.

To take the specimens, the thieves not only posed as federal authorities, but also broke the fence of the university center.

This species of amphibian was discovered in 2018 and is endemic to the Ameca River area that divides Nayarit and Jalisco in the municipalities of Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta.
