The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important celebrations in Chinese culture. In 2025, the event marks the beginning of the Year of the Wood Snake, according to the Chinese zodiac. In Mexico City, Chinatown is the center of these festivities, with parades, traditional dances, fireworks shows, and cultural activities that attract thousands of visitors every year.
On the occasion of these Chinese New Year 2025 festivities, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City has implemented a special security and traffic operation in the Centro neighborhood, specifically in Chinatown in the Cuauhtémoc borough. This device will be in effect on January 24, 25, and 28, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of attendees, tenants, and participants in the celebrations.
The operation began on Friday, January 24, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and will continue in the days following the festivities.
Deployed elements:
85 SSC officers.
8 patrol cars.
1 crane.
Condor helicopter, in charge of monitoring activities from the air.
The main objective of the operation is to prevent disturbances to public order and crimes, in addition to guaranteeing vehicular and pedestrian mobility in the area.
Traffic cuts
As part of the operation, the Sub-secretariat of Traffic Control has implemented traffic cuts in streets near Chinatown, including:
Dolores Street
