The Association of Magical Towns of Spain has recognized Nivardo Mena Villanueva, the municipal president of Lázaro Cárdenas, for the outstanding tourist and territorial development of Holbox Island, a popular destination for thousands of Spanish tourists.
During the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) held from January 22 to 26, Nivardo Mena received the award from Francisco Martín Vargas, president of the Association of Magical Towns of Spain. Holbox Island was celebrated for its sandy streets and serene, paradisiacal beaches, which are its main tourist attractions.
Upon receiving the award, Nivardo Mena expressed gratitude for the distinction and committed to enhancing the island’s tourist services to attract more visitors from Spain and around the world. He highlighted that the Municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, which includes Holbox Island, also boasts ecotourism potential with its lagoons, cenotes, underground rivers, and archaeological ruins, ready to welcome adventure-seeking tourists.
The International Tourism Fair provides an opportunity for communities with tourism potential to promote their destinations on an international level. It is a priority for the current administration to generate employment and improve the living conditions of families in Lázaro Cárdenas through tourism development.
